Education – Pasadena’s Dual Language Immersion Program in Spanish

Posted on August 19, 2013

Our “little one” is starting her second week of school in the Pasadena Unified’s Dual Language Program. She’s taking Spanish and is in the first grade. The class is conducted 90% in Spanish with 10% English instruction.

Last year she was in kindergarten and by November was speaking easily.

We’re pleased and she’s happy with the progress. We also see her English language skills are fine but she likes to read and she loves languages anyway.

The students who are likely at a disadvantage are students coming from primarily Spanish speaking homes who end up in a classroom with most of the subjects taught in Spanish.

For ours, though, she’s quite happy about it and the approach looks like it will serve her educational needs well.
